What Do We Do
WAVSS provides the following services:
Counselling for Women - individual counselling for women who have experienced domestic violence. Counselling can help you deal with the effects of domestic violence. It can also help you make decisions about what is best for you, including whether or not to stay with your partner.
Counselling for Children – individual and family counselling for mothers and their children who have previously witnessed or lived with domestic violence. This can help children feel less sad and anxious about what has happened in their family.
Groups for Women and Children - ongoing support groups to help women care for themselves and take control of their own lives. We also run a 10-week therapeutic group program, which helps women understand the cycle of domestic violence and the effects of domestic violence on themselves and their children. WAVSS also runs a therapeutic group for children who have witnessed or lived with domestic violence.
Support in a Crisis - when you feel overwhelmed we can help you work out what will help you the most. WAVSS can also help with accommodation, money and practical issues.
Information and Referral - information is provided to women who want to escape domestic violence and ways they can leave more safely. This includes information about refuges and Domestic Violence Orders (DVO's). Referrals will also be made to other relevant services as needed.
Court Support - a Court Support worker is available at the Beaudesert Court to provide information and support to women applying for a Domestic Violence Order (DVO).
